The Jews - part 3/3
66) Privileges of the Jews:
Ps
76:1 ¶ <<To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song of
Asaph.>> In Judah is God known: his name is great in
Israel.
Ps 76:2 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in
Zion.
Ro 3:1 ¶ What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is
there of circumcision?
Ro 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto
them were committed the oracles of God.
Ro 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom
pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving
of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Ro 9:5 Whose
are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came,
who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
67) The Jews, punished
for:
67a) Idolatry:
Ps 78:58 For they provoked him to anger with their
high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Ps 78:59
When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
Ps
78:60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he
placed among men;
Ps 78:61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his
glory into the enemy's hand.
Ps 78:62 He gave his people over also unto the
sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
Ps 78:63 The fire consumed their
young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
Ps 78:64 Their
priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
Isa 65:3 A
people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in
gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
Isa 65:4 Which remain
among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth
of abominable things is in their vessels;
Isa 65:5 Which say, Stand by
thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a
smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.
Isa 65:6 Behold, it
is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even
recompense into their bosom,
Isa 65:7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of
your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the
mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their
former work into their bosom.
67b) Unbelief:
Ro 11:20 Well; because
of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded,
but fear:
67c) Breaking covenant:
Isa 24:5 The earth also is
defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws,
changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
Jer 11:10 They are
turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my
words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the
house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their
fathers.
67d) Transgressing the law:
Isa 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a
people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters:
they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto
anger, they are gone away backward.
Isa 1:7 Your country is desolate,
your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your
presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
Isa 24:5 The
earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have
transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting
covenant.
Isa 24:6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that
dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned,
and few men left.
67e) Changing the ordinances:
Isa 24:5 The earth
also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed
the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
67f)
Killing the prophets:
Mt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that
killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would
I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens
under her wings, and ye would not!
Mt 23:38 Behold, your house is left
unto you desolate.
67g) Imprecating upon themselves the blood of
Christ:
Mt 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood
be on us, and on our children.
68) Scattered among
the nations:
De 28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people,
from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve
other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and
stone.
Eze 6:8 ¶ Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some
that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered
through the countries.
Eze 36:19 And I scattered them among the heathen, and
they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according
to their doings I judged them.
69) Despised by the nations:
Eze
36:3 Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made
you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a
possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of
talkers, and are an infamy of the people:
70) The Jews, their
country trodden under foot by the Gentiles:
De 28:49 The LORD shall bring
a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as
the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
De 28:50 A
nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor
shew favour to the young:
De 28:51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle,
and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed: which also shall not
leave thee either corn, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy kine,
or flocks of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee.
De 28:52 And he shall
besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down,
wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land: and he shall besiege thee in
all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God hath given
thee.
Lu 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led
away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the
Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
71) The Jews,
their house left desolate:
Mt 24:38 For as in the days that were before
the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until
the day that Noe entered into the ark,
72) The Jews, deprived of civil
and religious privileges:
Ho 3:4 For the children of Israel shall abide
many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and
without an image, and without an ephod, and without
teraphim:
73) Denunciations against those who:
73a) Cursed the Jews:
Ge 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations
bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down
to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he
that blesseth thee.
Nu 24:9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great
lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed
is he that curseth thee.
73b) Contended with the Jews:
Isa
41:11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and
confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall
perish.
Isa 49:25 But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty
shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will
contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy
children.
73c) Oppressed the Jews:
Isa 49:26 And I will feed them
that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own
blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am
thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
Isa 51:21 Therefore
hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:
Isa 51:22 Thus
saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his
people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even
the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:
Isa 51:23
But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to
thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the
ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
73d) Hated the
Jews:
Ps 129:5 ¶ Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate
Zion.
Eze 35:5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the
blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of
their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
Eze
35:6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto
blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood
shall pursue thee.
73e) Aggravated the afflictions of the Jews:
Zec
1:14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus
saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great
jealousy.
Zec 1:15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that
are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the
affliction.
73f) Slaughtered the Jews:
Ps 79:1 ¶ <<A Psalm of
Asaph.>> O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy
temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
Ps 79:2 The dead
bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the
heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
Ps 79:3 Their
blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none
to bury them.
Ps 79:4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a
scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
Ps 79:5 How long, LORD?
wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
Ps 79:6 ¶
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the
kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
Ps 79:7 For they have devoured
Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
Eze 35:5 Because thou hast had a
perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by
the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that
their iniquity had an end:
Eze 35:6 Therefore, as I live,
saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee:
sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue
thee.
74) God, mindful of the Jews:
Ps 98:3 He hath
remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of
the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Isa 49:15 Can a woman forget
her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?
yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
Isa 49:16 Behold, I have
graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually
before me.
75) Christ was sent to the Jews:
Mt 15:24 But he
answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of
Israel.
Mt 21:37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will
reverence my son.
Ac 3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was
preached unto you:
Ac 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet
shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him
shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
Ac 3:26 Unto
you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning
away every one of you from his iniquities.
76) Compassion of Christ
for the Jews:
Mt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest
the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have
gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under
her wings, and ye would not!
Lu 19:41 ¶ And when he was come near, he
beheld the city, and wept over it,
77) The gospel preached to the Jews
first:
Mt 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of
Israel.
Lu 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached
in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Ac 1:8 But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto
the uttermost part of the earth.
78) Blessedness of blessing the
Jews:
Ge 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be
lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed
be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth
thee.
79) Blessedness of favouring the Jews:
Ge 12:3 And I will
bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall
all families of the earth be blessed.
Ps 122:6 ¶ Pray for the peace of
Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
80) Pray importunately
for the Jews:
Ps 122:6 ¶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall
prosper that love thee.
Isa 62:1 ¶ For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace,
and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go
forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that
burneth.
Isa 62:6 ¶ I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem,
which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of
the LORD, keep not silence,

and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of
Israel.
Ro 10:1 ¶ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel
is, that they might be saved.

thereof.

not still: remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your
mind.
82) Promises respecting the Jews:
82a) The pouring out of the Spirit upon them:
Eze 39:29 Neither will
I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the
house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
Zec 12:10 And I will pour upon the house
of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of
supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they
shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall
be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his
firstborn.
82b) The removal of their blindness:
Ro 11:25 For I
would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should
be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
2Co 3:14 But their minds were
blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading
of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
2Co 3:15 But
even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
2Co
3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken
away.
82c) Their return and seeking to God:
Ho 3:5 Afterward shall
the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their
king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
82d)
Their humiliation for the rejection of Christ:
Zec 12:10 And I will pour
upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of
grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son,
and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his
firstborn.

ungodliness from Jacob:

will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they
have transgressed against me.

upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all
the nations that come against Jerusalem.
82h) Joy occasioned by conversion
of the Jews:
Isa 44:23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done
it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye
mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob,
and glorified himself in Israel.
Isa 49:13 ¶ Sing, O heavens; and be joyful,
O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted
his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall
see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.

into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath
comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her,
all ye that mourn for her:
82i) Blessing to the Gentiles by conversion of
the Jews:

Judah and Jerusalem.

that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of
the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow
unto it.
Isa 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up
to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach
us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth
the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Isa 66:19 And I will set a sign
among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations,
to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan,
to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my
glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.
Ro 11:12 Now if
the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them
the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
Ro 11:15 For if the
casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall
the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
82j) Reunion of
the Jews:

house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to
the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
Eze 37:16
Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah,
and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and

thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of

reason of the multitude of men.
82k) Restoration to their own
land:

Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river,
and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over
dryshod.

people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day
that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

16:14 ¶ Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more
be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land
of Egypt;

sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be

arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.

them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.
Zec 14:4 And his
feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before
Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof
toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great
valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it
toward the south.
82q) That Christ shall dwell amongst the
Jews:
Eze 43:7 ¶ And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne,
and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the
children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more
defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the
carcases of their kings in their high places.
Eze 43:9 Now let them put away
their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell
in the midst of them for ever.

they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein
your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and
their children, and their children's children for ever: and my servant David

83) Conversion of
the Jews, illustrated:
Eze 37:1 ¶ The hand of the LORD was upon me, and
carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the
valley which was full of bones,
Eze 37:2 And caused me to pass by them
round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and,
lo, they were very dry.
Eze 37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can
these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
Eze 37:4 Again he
said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear
the word of the LORD.
Eze 37:5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones;
Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
Eze 37:6
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you
with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I
am the LORD.
Eze 37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I
prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came
together, bone to his bone.
Eze 37:8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and
the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there
was no breath in them.
Eze 37:9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the
wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come
from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may
live.
Eze 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into
them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great
army.
Eze 37:11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole
house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we
are cut off for our parts.
Eze 37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause
you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
Eze
37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your
graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,
Eze 37:14 And
shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own
land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed
it, saith the LORD.
Ro 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive

olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be
