God: His Attributes and Work
1) God is a spirit:
Joh
4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him
in spirit and in truth.
2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the
Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2) God is
declared to be:
2a) Light:
Isa 60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day;
neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall
be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.
Jas 1:17 Every good
gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of
lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
1Jo 1:5 ¶
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
2b) Love:
1Jo 4:8
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1Jo 4:16 And we have
known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that
dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Invisible:
Job 23:8 ¶ Behold, I go forward, but he is not
there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
Job 23:9 On the left
hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on
the right hand, that I cannot see him:
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God
at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath
declared him.
Joh 5:37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me,
hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen
his shape.
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of
every creature:
1Ti 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the
only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2d)
Unsearchable:
Job 11:7 ¶ Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou
find out the Almighty unto perfection?
Job 37:23 Touching the
Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in
judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
Ps 145:3 Great
is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is
unsearchable.
Isa 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that
the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
Ro
11:33 ¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
2e)
Incorruptible:
Ro 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God
into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts,
and creeping things.
2f) Eternal:
De 33:27 The eternal God is
thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall
thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
Ps
90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the
earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art
God.
Re 4:8 ¶ And the four beasts had each of them six wings about
him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and
night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to
come.
Re 4:9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him
that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
Re 4:10 The four and
twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that
liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

2g) Immortal:
1Ti 1:17 Now unto the King eternal,
immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and
ever. Amen.
1Ti 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which
no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be
honour and power everlasting. Amen.
2h) Omnipotent:
Ge 17:1 ¶ And
when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said
unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou
perfect.
Ex 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by
the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to
them.
2i) Omniscient:
Ps 139:1 ¶ <<To the chief Musician, A
Psalm of David.>> O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known
me.
Ps 139:2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou
understandest my thought afar off.
Ps 139:3 Thou compassest my path and my
lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
Ps 139:4 For there
is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it
altogether.
Ps 139:5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine
hand upon me.
Ps 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Pr 5:21 For the ways of man
are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his
goings.
2j) Omnipresent:
Ps 139:7 ¶ Whither shall I go from thy
spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Jer 23:23 Am I a
God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
2k)
Immutable:
Ps 102:26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all
of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and
they shall be changed:
Ps 102:27 But thou art the same, and thy years
shall have no end.
Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from

2l) Only-wise:
Ro 16:27 To God only

2m)
Glorious:
Ex 15:11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods?
who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing
wonders?
Ps 145:5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of
thy wondrous works.
2n) Most High:
Ps 83:18 That men may
know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high
over all the earth.
Ac 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples
made with hands; as saith the prophet,
2o) Perfect:
Mt 5:48 Be ye
therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Holy:
Ps 99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for
the LORD our God is holy.
Isa 5:16 But the LORD of hosts shall be
exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in
righteousness.
2q) Just:
De 32:4 He is the Rock, his work
is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and
without iniquity, just and right is he.
Isa 45:21 Tell ye, and bring
them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this
from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the
LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour;
there is none beside me.
2r) True:
Jer 10:10 But the LORD
is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at
his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide
his indignation.
Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Upright:
Ps 25:8 ¶ Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he
teach sinners in the way.
Ps 92:15 To shew that the LORD is upright:
he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
2t)
Righteous:
Ezr 9:15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for
we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before
thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
Ps
145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his
works.
2u) Good:
Ps 25:8 ¶ Good and upright is the LORD:
therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
Ps 119:68 ¶ Thou art good,
and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
2v) Great:
2Ch 2:5 And the
house which I build is great: for great is our God above all
gods.
Ps 86:10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou
art God alone.
2w) Gracious:
Ex 34:6 And the LORD passed by
before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious,
longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Ps 116:5 Gracious
is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
2x)
Faithful:
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,
that ye may be able to bear it.
1Pe 4:19 Wherefore let them that
suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to
him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
2y) Merciful:
Ex
34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God,
merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Ex
34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the
fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and
to the fourth generation.
Ps 86:5 For thou, Lord, art good, and
ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon
thee.
2z) Long-suffering:
Nu 14:18 The LORD is
longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by
no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation.
Mic 7:1 ¶ Woe is
me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings
of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe
fruit.
2A) Jealous:
Jos 24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye
cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God;
he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
Na 1:2 ¶ God is
jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the
LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for
his enemies.
2B) Compassionate:
2Ki 13:23 And the LORD was gracious
unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his
covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither
cast he them from his presence as yet.
2C) A consuming fire:
Heb
12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.
3) God,
there is none beside Him:
De 4:35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou
mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside
him.
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the
LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me
there is no God.
4) God, there is none before Him:
Isa
43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have
chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he:
before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

God, there is none like to Him:
Ex 9:14 For I will at this time send all
my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that
thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
De 33:26
¶ There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the
heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.
2Sa 7:22 Wherefore thou
art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there
any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our
ears.
Isa 46:5 ¶ To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and
compare me, that we may be like?
Isa 46:9 Remember the former things of old:
for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and
there is none like me,
Jer 10:6 Forasmuch as there is none like
unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in
might.
6) God, there is none good but He:
Mt 19:17 And he said
unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that
is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the
commandments.
7) God fills heaven and earth:
1Ki 8:27 But will
God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot
contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
Jer 23:24 Can any
hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I
fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
8) God should be worshipped in
spirit and in truth:
Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that
worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
