The Holy Spirit - The Teacher
1) The Holy Spirit, the
Teacher, promised:
Pr 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour
out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
2) The
Holy Spirit, the Teacher, as the Spirit of wisdom:
Isa 11:2 And the
spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
LORD;
Isa 40:13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his
counsellor hath taught him?
Isa 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and
who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught
him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
3) The Holy
Spirit, the Teacher, given:
3a) In answer to prayer:
Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you,
making mention of you in my prayers;
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him:
3b) To saints:
Ne 9:20 Thou
gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from
their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
1Co 2:12 Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we
might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
1Co 2:13 Which
things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which
the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with
spiritual.
4) Necessity for the Holy Spirit, the
Teacher:
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
for them that love him.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by
his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of
God.
5) The Holy Spirit, the Teacher. As such he:
5a) Reveals the things of God:
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed
them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the
deep things of God.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words
which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual.
5b) Reveals the things of
Christ:
Joh 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and
shall shew it unto you.
5c) Reveals the future:
Lu 2:26 And
it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before
he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Ac 21:11 And when he was come unto us, he took
Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy
Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and
shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
5d) Brings the
words of Christ to remembrance:
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which
is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you
all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said
unto you.
5e) Directs in the way of godliness:
Isa 30:21 And thine
ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in
it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
Eze 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and
ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
5f) Teaches saints to
answer persecutors:
Mr 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and
deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye
premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for
it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
Lu 12:12 For the Holy Ghost
shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
5g) Enables
ministers to teach:
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word
of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
5h) Guides
into all truth:
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and
bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Joh
16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all
truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear,
that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
5i)
Directs the decisions of the Church:
Ac 15:28 For it seemed good to the
Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary
things;
6) Attend to the instruction of the Holy Spirit,
the Teacher:
Re 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree
of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Re 2:11 He that hath
an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh
shall not be hurt of the second death.
Re 2:29 He that hath an ear, let him
hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
7) The natural man will
not receive the things of the Holy Spirit:
1Co 2:14 But the natural man
receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto
him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually
discerned.
