The Holy Spirit, the Comforter
1) The Holy Spirit, the
Comforter, proceeds from the Father:
Joh 15:26 ¶ But when the Comforter
is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of
truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
2)
The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, given:
2a) By the Father:
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he
shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
2b)
By Christ:
Isa 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto
them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for
the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the
planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
2c) Through Christ's
intercession:
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, sent in the name of Christ:
Joh 14:26 But
the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.
4) The Holy Spirit, the Comforter,
sent by Christ from the Father:
Joh 15:26 ¶ But when the Comforter is
come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of
truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
Joh 16:7 ¶
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for
if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will
send him unto you.
5) The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, as such he:
5a) Communicates joy to saints:
Ro 14:17 For the kingdom of God is
not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy
Ghost.
Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
1Th 1:6 ¶ And ye became followers
of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of
the Holy Ghost:
5b) Edifies the Church:
Ac 9:31 Then had the
churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified;
and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were
multiplied.
5c) Testifies of Christ:
Joh 15:26 ¶ But when the
Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the
Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of
me:
5d) Imparts the love of God:
Ro 5:3 And not only so, but
we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
Ro
5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Ro 5:5 And hope maketh
not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy
Ghost which is given unto us.
5e) Imparts hope:
Ro 15:13 ¶ Now the
God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in
hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Ga 5:5 For we through the Spirit
wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
5f) Teaches
saints:
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom
the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
5g) Dwells
with, and in saints:
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the
world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know
him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
5h) Abides for ever
with saints:
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
5i) Is known by
saints:
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
6) The world
cannot receive the Holy Spirit:
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of
truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth
him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
