The Reign of Christ
1) Christ the King, foretold:
Nu
24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there
shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and
shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
Ps
2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Ps 45:1 ¶ <<To
the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of
loves.>> My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I
have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready
writer.
Ps 45:2 Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured
into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Ps 45:3 Gird thy
sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy
majesty.
Ps 45:4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and
meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible
things.
Ps 45:5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's
enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Ps 45:6 ¶ Thy throne, O
God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right
sceptre.
Ps 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore
God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy
fellows.
Ps 45:8 All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes,
and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee
glad.
Ps 45:9 Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon
thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
Ps 45:10 ¶ Hearken, O
daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and
thy father's house;
Ps 45:11 So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for
he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
Ps 45:12 And the daughter of
Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people
shall intreat thy favour.
Ps 45:13 The king's daughter is all glorious
within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
Ps 45:14 She shall be brought
unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow
her shall be brought unto thee.
Ps 45:15 With gladness and rejoicing shall
they be brought: they shall enter into the king's palace.
Ps 45:16 Instead of
thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the
earth.
Ps 45:17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations:
therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
Isa 9:7 Of the
increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon
the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with
judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of
hosts will perform this.
Jer 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that
I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper,
and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Mic 5:2 But thou,
Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah,
yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in
Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from
everlasting.
2) Christ the King, Glorious:
Ps 24:7 ¶ Lift
up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King
of glory shall come in.
Ps 24:8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD
strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
Ps 24:9 Lift up your heads, O
ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory
shall come in.
Ps 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he
is the King of glory. Selah.
1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this
world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord
of glory.
Jas 2:1 ¶ My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
3) Christ the
King, Supreme:
Ps 89:27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher
than the kings of the earth.
Re 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the
faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of
the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in
his own blood,
Re 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a
name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
4) Christ the
King sits in the throne of God:
Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I
grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with
my Father in his throne.
5) Christ the King sits on the throne
of David:
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to
order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth
even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Eze 37:24 And
David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one
shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do
them.
Eze 37:25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob
my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein,
even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever:
and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.
Lu 1:32 He shall
be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall
give unto him the throne of his father David:
Ac 2:30 Therefore being a
prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit
of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his
throne;
6) Christ the King is King of Zion:
Ps 2:6 Yet
have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Isa 52:7 ¶ How beautiful upon
the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth
peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith
unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
Zec 9:9 ¶ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is
just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the
foal of an ass.
Mt 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh
unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
Joh
12:12 ¶ On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard
that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Joh 12:13 Took branches of palm trees,
and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of
Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Joh 12:14 And Jesus, when he had
found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
Joh 12:15 Fear not,
daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's
colt.
7) Christ the King has a righteous kingdom:
Ps 45:6
¶ Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom
is a right sceptre.
Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is
the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Heb 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated
iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
Isa 32:1 ¶ Behold, a king shall reign in
righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
Jer 23:5 Behold, the days
come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a
King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the
earth.
8) Christ the King has an everlasting kingdom:
Da
2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom,
which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other
people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and
it shall stand for ever.
Da 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory,
and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his
dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his
kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Lu 1:33 And he shall reign
over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no
end.
9) Christ the King has a universal kingdom:
Ps 2:8
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine
inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy
possession.
Ps 72:8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the
river unto the ends of the earth.
Zec 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over
all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
Re
11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven,
saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord,
and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
10)
Christ the King, his kingdom is not of this world:
Joh 18:36 Jesus
answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world,
then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but
now is my kingdom not from hence.
11) Saints are the subjects of
Christ the King:
Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of
darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Re
15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the
Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just
and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
12) Saints
receive a kingdom from Christ the King:
Lu 22:29 And I appoint unto you a
kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
Lu 22:30 That ye may eat and
drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of
Israel.
Heb 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let
us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly
fear:
13) Christ the King, acknowledged by:
13a) The wise men from the East:
Mt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is
born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to
worship him.
13b) Nathanael:
Joh 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith
unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of
Israel.
13c) His followers:
Lu 19:38 Saying, Blessed be the
King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the
highest.
Joh 12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him,
and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name
of the Lord.
14) Christ the King, declared by
himself:
Mt 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand,
Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world:
Joh 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a
king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the
truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
15)
'Christ the King', written on His cross:
Joh 19:19 ¶ And Pilate wrote a
title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
16) The Jews shall seek to Christ the
King:
Ho 3:5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the
LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness
in the latter days.
17) Saints shall behold Christ the
King:
Isa 33:17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall
behold the land that is very far off.
Re 22:3 And there shall be no more
curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants
shall serve him:
Re 22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall
be in their foreheads.
18) Kings shall do homage to Christ
the King:
Ps 72:10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring
presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
Isa 49:7 ¶ Thus
saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man
despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall
see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful,
and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
19)
Christ the King shall overcome all his enemies:
Ps 110:1 ¶ <<A
Psalm of David.>> The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Mr 12:36 For David himself said by
the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make
thine enemies thy footstool.
1Co 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put
all enemies under his feet.
Re 17:14 ¶ These shall make war with the Lamb,
and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings:
and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and
faithful.
20) Christ the King typified:
20a) Melchizedek:
Ge 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought
forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high
God.
20b) David:
1Sa 16:1 ¶ And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long
wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel?
fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite:
for I have provided me a king among his sons.
1Sa 16:12 And he sent, and
brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful
countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for
this is he.
1Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed
him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David
from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Lu 1:32 He shall
be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall
give unto him the throne of his father David:
20c) Solomon:
1Ch
28:6 And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my
courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his
father.
1Ch 28:7 Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be
constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this
day.
