Love to God

The term "love to God" is used to emphasize the direction of the love that is under discussion here.

1) Commanded to love God:
De 11:1 ¶ Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.
Jos 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

2) Love to God, the first great commandment:
Mt 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

3) Love God with all the heart:
De 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Mt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

4) Love to God, better than all sacrifices:
Mr 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

5) Love to God, produced by:
 5a) The Holy Spirit:
Ga 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
2Th 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
5b) The love of God to us:
1Jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
5c) Answers to prayer:
Ps 116:1 ¶ I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

6) Love to God, exhibited by Christ:
Joh 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

7) Love to God, a characteristic of saints:
Ps 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

8) Love to God should produce:
 8a) Joy:

8b) Love to saints:
1Jo 5:1 ¶ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
8c) Hatred of sin:
Ps 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
8d) Obedience to God:
De 30:20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

9) Love to God, perfected in obedience:
1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

10) Perfected love to God gives boldness:
1Jo 4:17 ¶ Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
1Jo 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

11) God, faithful to those who love Him:
De 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

12) They who have love to God:
 12a) Are known of him:
1Co 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
12b) Are preserved by him:
Ps 145:20 The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.
12c) Are delivered by him:
Ps 91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
12d) Partake of his mercy:
Ex 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
De 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
12e) Have all things working for their good:
Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

13) Persevere in love to God:
Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

14) Exhort one another to love God:
Ps 31:23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

15) Pray for love to God:
2Th 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

16) The love of the world is a proof of not having love to God:
1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

17) They who love not others, are without love to God:
1Jo 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

18) Hypocrites, without love to God:
Lu 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Joh 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

19) The uncharitable, without love to God:
1Jo 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

20) God tries the sincerity of your love to Him:
De 13:3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

21) Promises connected with love to God:
De 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
De 11:14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
De 11:15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
Ps 69:36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
