Social and Family Prayer
1) Promise of answers to social and
family prayer:
Mt 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall
agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for
them of my Father which is in heaven.
2) Christ promises to be present
at social and family prayer:
Mt 18:20 For where two or three are gathered
together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
3) Punishment
for neglecting social and family prayer:
Jer 10:25 Pour out thy fury upon
the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name:
for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made
his habitation desolate.
4) Social and family prayer exemplified:
4a) Abram:
Ge 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his
brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls
that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of
Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
Ge 12:8 And he removed from
thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent,
having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an
altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
4b)
Jacob:
Ge 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that
were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and
be clean, and change your garments:
Ge 35:3 And let us arise, and go up to
Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of
my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
Ge 35:7 And he built
there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto
him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
4c) Joshua:
Jos
24:15 ¶ And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom
ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on
the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye
dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
4d)
David:
2Sa 6:20 ¶ Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal
the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king
of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of
his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth
himself!
4e) Job:
Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of
their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and
rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to
the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and
cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
4f) The
Disciples:
Ac 1:13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper
room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and
Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon
Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
Ac 1:14 These all continued
with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother
of Jesus, and with his brethren.
4g) Cornelius:
Ac 10:2 A
devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much
alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

the prisoners heard them.
4i) Paul:
Ac 20:36 ¶ And when he had thus
spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
Ac 21:5 And when we had
accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us
on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we
kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.
