Answers to Prayer
1) God gives answers to prayer:
Ps
99:6 ¶ Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon
his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.
Ps 118:5 I called
upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large
place.
Ps 138:3 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and
strengthenedst me with strength in my soul.
2) Christ gives
answers to prayer:
Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou
knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink;
thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of
water springing up into everlasting life.
Joh 14:14 If ye shall ask any
thing in my name, I will do it.
3) Christ received answers to

Joh 11:42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of
the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast

4a) Through the grace of God
Isa 30:19 For the people shall dwell in

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are
called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn
from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their
sin, and will heal their land.
Job 22:23 If thou return to the Almighty,
thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
Job 22:27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and
thou shalt pay thy vows.
7e) Ask in faith:
Mt 21:21 Jesus answered
and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye
shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye
shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it
shall be done.
Jas 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the
Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven

Ps 34:15 The eyes of the LORD are

be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth

needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for

Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from

Ps 116:17 I will offer to
thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

salvation.
9) Answers to prayer; a motive for continued
prayer:
Ps 116:2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will
I call upon him as long as I live.
10) Answers to prayer denied
to those who:
10a) Ask amiss:
Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask
amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
10b) Regard iniquity
in the heart:
Ps 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will
not hear me:
10c) Live in sin:
Isa 59:2 But your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face
from you, that he will not hear.
Joh 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not
sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he
heareth.
10d) Offer unworthy service to God:
Mal 1:7 Ye offer
polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In
that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
Mal 1:8 And if ye
offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame
and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be
pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 1:9
And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath
been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of
hosts.
10e) Forsake God:
Jer 14:10 ¶ Thus saith the LORD unto this
people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet,
therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity,
and visit their sins.
Jer 14:12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry;
and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but
I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
10f) Reject the call of God:
Pr 1:24 Because I have
called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Pr 1:25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my
reproof:

law:
Pr 28:9 ¶ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even
his prayer shall be abomination.
Zec 7:11 But they refused to
hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should
not hear.
Zec 7:12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone,
lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent
in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD
of hosts.
Zec 7:13 Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried,
and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of
hosts:
10h) Are deaf to the cry of the poor:
Pr 21:13 ¶ Whoso
stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall
not be heard.
10i) Are blood shedders:
Isa 1:15 And when ye spread
forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many
prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Isa 59:3 For your
hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have
spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
10j) Are
idolaters:
Jer 11:11 ¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they
shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
Jer 11:12 Then shall the
cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom
they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their
trouble.
Jer 11:13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy
gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem
have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn
incense unto Baal.
Jer 11:14 Therefore pray not thou for this people,
neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the
time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
Eze 8:15 Then said he unto me,
Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou
shalt see greater abominations than these.
Eze 8:16 And he brought me into
the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of
the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty
men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the
east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
Eze 8:17 Then he said
unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the
house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for
they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to
anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Eze 8:18 Therefore will I
also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and
though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear
them.
10k) Are wavering:
Jas 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing
wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind
and tossed.
Jas 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any
thing of the Lord.
10l) Are hypocrites:
Job 27:8 For what is
the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?
Job 27:9 Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?
10m) Are
proud:
Job 35:12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the
pride of evil men.
Job 35:13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will
the Almighty regard it.
10n) Are self-righteous:
Lu 18:11 The
Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as
other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publican.
Lu 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I
possess.
Lu 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified
rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be
abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
10o) Are the
enemies of saints:
Ps 18:40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine
enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.
Ps 18:41 They cried, but
there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered
them not.
10p) Cruelly oppress saints:
Mic 3:2 Who hate the good,
and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from
off their bones;
Mic 3:3 Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their
skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for
the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
Mic 3:4 Then shall they cry unto
the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at
that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their
doings.

11a) Abraham:
Ge 17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee:
Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him
exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great
nation.
11b) Lot:
Ge 19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace
in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me
in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me,
and I die:
Ge 19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and
it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little
one?) and my soul shall live.
Ge 19:21 And he said unto him, See, I have
accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city,
for the which thou hast spoken.
11c) Abraham's servant:
Ge 24:15
And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came
out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's
brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
Ge 24:16 And the damsel
was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and
she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Ge 24:17 And
the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water
of thy pitcher.
Ge 24:18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and
let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
Ge 24:19 And when
she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels
also, until they have done drinking.
Ge 24:20 And she hasted, and emptied
her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water,
and drew for all his camels.
Ge 24:21 And the man wondering at her held his
peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
Ge
24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a
golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten
shekels weight of gold;
Ge 24:23 And said, Whose daughter art
thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to
lodge in?
Ge 24:24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of
Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.
Ge 24:25 She said
moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge
in.
Ge 24:26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
Ge 24:27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham,
who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being
in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
11d)
Jacob:
Ge 32:24 ¶ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with
him until the breaking of the day.
Ge 32:25 And when he saw that he
prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of
Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
Ge 32:26 And he
said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go,
except thou bless me.
Ge 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy
name? And he said, Jacob.
Ge 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no
more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men,
and hast prevailed.
Ge 32:29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell
me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it
that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Ge 32:30
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face,
and my life is preserved.
11e) Israelites:
Ex 2:23 ¶ And it came to
pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God
by reason of the bondage.
Ex 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God
remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

Moses:
Ex 17:4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do
unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of
Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and
go.

and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
Ex 17:12 But Moses' hands
were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he
sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and
the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of
the sun.
Ex 17:13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge
of the sword.
Ex 32:11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD,
why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out
of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
Ex 32:12
Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them
out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the
earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
Ex 32:13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou
swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as
the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto
your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
Ex 32:14 And the LORD
repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

Samson:
Jud 15:18 ¶ And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and
said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and

water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived:

LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

1Sa 7:9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for
a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for
Israel; and the LORD heard him.
11j) Solomon:
1Ki 3:9 Give
therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may
discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a
people?
1Ki 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have
given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee
before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
11k) Man
of God:
1Ki 13:6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God,
Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be
restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king's hand was
restored him again, and became as it was before.

Elijah:
1Ki 18:36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering
of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said,
LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou
art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and
that I have done all these things at thy word.
1Ki 18:37 Hear me, O
LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and
that thou hast turned their heart back again.

11p) Jabez:
1Ch 4:10 And Jabez called on the
God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my
coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep
me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which

God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many,

dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for
thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then
thou wilt hear and help.

and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they
came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them
not;

not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye

be with you.
