Faith
1) Faith is the substance of things hoped
for:
Heb 11:1 ¶ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen.
2) Faith is the evidence of things
not seen:
Heb 11:1 ¶ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen.
3) Faith commanded:
Mt 11:22
But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of
judgment, than for you.
1Jo 3:23 ¶ And this is his commandment, That we
should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he
gave us commandment.
4) The objects of faith are:
4a) God:
Joh 14:1 ¶ Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in
God, believe also in me.
4b) Christ:
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and
said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath
sent.
Ac 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks,

Joh 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have
believed me: for he wrote of me.

after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers,
believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
4d)
Writings of the prophets:
2Ch 20:20 ¶ And they rose early in the morning,
and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat
stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in
the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye
prosper.
Ac 26:27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that
thou believest.
4e) The gospel:
Mr 1:15 And saying, The time is
fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the
gospel.
4f) Promises of God:

that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Heb 11:13 These all
died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off,
and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that
they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
5)
Faith in Christ is:
5a) The gift of God:
Ro 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto
me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly
than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to
every man the measure of faith.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 6:23
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
1Co 2:5 That your faith
should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the
righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

holy:
Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy
faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
5e) Fruitful:
1Th 1:3 Remembering
without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in
our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

Finisher of our faith:
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured
the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne
of God.
7) Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit:
1Co 12:9
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same
Spirit;
8) The Scriptures designed to produce faith:
Joh
20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
2Ti 3:15
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to
make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus.
9) Preaching designed to produce faith:
Joh 17:20
¶ Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me
through their word;
Ac 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the
things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were
baptized, both men and women.
Ro 10:14 How then shall they call on him in
whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have
not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Ro 10:15 And how
shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the
feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good
things!
Ro 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the
word of God.
1Co 3:5 ¶ Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but
ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every
man?
10) Faith; through it is:
10a) Remission of sins:

witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive
remission of sins.
Ro 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
10b)
Justification:
Ac 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from
all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Ro
3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being
witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Ro 3:22 Even the righteousness of God
which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that
believe: for there is no difference:
Ro 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a
man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Ro 3:30 Seeing it
is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and
uncircumcision through faith.
Ro 5:1 ¶ Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Ga 2:16 Knowing that a
man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith
of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no
flesh be justified.
10c) Salvation:
Mr 16:16 He that believeth and
is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

and thy house.

inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
10e)

that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
10f)

that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life
through his name.
Ga 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;
yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
me.
10g) Eternal life:
Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 6:40 And this is the will
of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him,
may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:47
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting
life.
10h) Rest in heaven:
Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do
enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter
into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the
world.
10i) Edification:
1Ti 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and
endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which
is in faith: so do.
Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves
on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
10j)
Preservation:
1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
10k) Adoption:
Joh
1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name:
Ga 3:26 For ye are all
the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
10l) Access to
God:
Ro 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein
we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Eph 3:12 In whom we have
boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
10m) Inheritance
of the promises:
Ga 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin,
that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith
and patience inherit the promises.
10n) The gift of the Holy
Spirit:
Ac 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as
on us at the beginning.
Ac 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how
that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the
Holy Ghost.
Ac 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he
did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could
withstand God?
Ga 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the
Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard
the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye
believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of
promise,
11) Impossible to please God without
faith:
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please
him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that
he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
12)
Justification is by faith to be of grace:
Ro 4:16 Therefore it is
of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure
to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is
of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
13) Faith;
essential to the profitable reception of the gospel:
Heb 4:2 For unto us
was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not
profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard
it.
14) Faith; necessary in the Christian
warfare:
1Ti 1:18 ¶ This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy,
according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them
mightest war a good warfare;
1Ti 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience;
which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
1Ti 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also
called, and hast professed a good profession before many
witnesses.
15) The gospel effectual in those who have
faith:
1Th 2:13 ¶ For this cause also thank we God without ceasing,
because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received
it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God,
which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
16) Faith
excludes self-justification:
Ro 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not
submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Ro 10:4 For Christ
is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that
believeth.

is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the
law of faith.

Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but
faith which worketh by love.
1Ti 1:5 ¶ Now the end of the commandment is

toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
19) Faith
produces:
19a) Hope:
Ro 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this
grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
1Pe 1:8 Whom
having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet
believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

Peace:
Ro 15:13 ¶ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in
believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy
Ghost.
19d) Confidence:
Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord
GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious
corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in
Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall
not be confounded.
19e) Boldness in preaching:
Ps 116:10 ¶ I
believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
2Co 4:13 We
having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and
therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
19f) Christ
is precious to those having faith:
1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which
believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone
which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the
corner,
19g) Christ dwells in the heart by faith:
Eph 3:17 That
Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in
love,
19h) Faith necessary in prayer:
Mt 21:22 And all things,
whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Jas 1:6 But
let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of
the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
19i) Those who are not Christ's
have not faith:
Joh 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my
sheep, as I said unto you.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know
them, and they follow me:
19j) An evidence of the new birth:
1Jo
5:1 ¶ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one
that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of
him.
20) Faith; by it saints:
20a) Live:
Ga 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live;
yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
me.
20b) Stand:
Ro 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken
off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
2Co 1:24 Not
for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by
faith ye stand.
20c) Walk:
Ro 4:12 And the father of circumcision
to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of
that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet
uncircumcised.
2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
20d)
Obtain a good report:
Heb 11:2 For by it the elders obtained a good
report.
20e) Overcome the world:
1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of
God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world,
even our faith.
1Jo 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he
that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
20f) Resist the
devil:
1Pe 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same
afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the
living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that
believe.
21) Saints die in faith:
Heb 11:13
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them
afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the
earth.
22) Saints should:
22a) Be sincere in faith:
1Ti 1:5 ¶ Now the end of the commandment
is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of
faith unfeigned:
2Ti 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that
is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice;
and I am persuaded that in thee also.
22b) Abound in faith:

¶ Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and
knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us,
see that ye abound in this grace also.
22c) Continue in
faith:
Ac 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and
exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much
tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
Col 1:23 If ye continue in the
faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the
gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature
which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
22d) Be strong
in faith:
Ro 4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through
unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Ro 4:21 And being
fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Ro
4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Ro 4:23 ¶ Now it

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a
true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
conscience, and our bodies washed with pure
water.
23) True faith evidenced by its
fruits:
Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he
had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith
wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
Jas 2:23 And
the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was
imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Jas
2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
Jas 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she
had received the messengers, and had sent them out another
way?
24) Without fruits, faith is dead:
Jas 2:17 Even so
faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Jas 2:20 But wilt thou
know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Jas 2:26 For as the body
without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead
also.
25) Examine whether you be in faith:
2Co 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye
not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be
reprobates?
26) All difficulties overcome by faith:
Mt
17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto
you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall
be impossible unto you.
Mt 21:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I
say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this
which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this
mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Mr 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are
possible to him that believeth.

faith:
Ro 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God.
Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he
alloweth.
28) Whatever is not of faith is sin:
Ro 14:23
And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith:
for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
29) Faith; often
tried by affliction:
1Pe 1:6 ¶ Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for
a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
1Pe
1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that
perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour
and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
30) Trial of faith
works patience:
Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your
faith worketh patience.

faith:

baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and
signs which were done.
Ac 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this
matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of
me.
Joh 12:37 ¶ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet
they believed not on him:
Ac 19:9 But when divers were hardened, and
believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from
them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one
Tyrannus.
2Th 3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked
men: for all men have not faith.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and
his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his
knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did
aforetime.
Da 6:23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded
that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of
the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his
God.
